Cakes by Alison is a luxury wedding cake studio based in the Lake District, specialising in beautifully considered, bespoke wedding cakes with an emphasis on artistry, individuality and exceptional attention to detail.
Known particularly for elegant hand-painted designs, each cake is created as an individual piece of edible art, thoughtfully designed to reflect the couple, their wedding and the setting in which their celebration takes place.
From delicate botanical painting and contemporary textures to intricate sugar work and highly personal illustrative details, every design begins with a blank canvas. Inspiration can come from a wedding venue, the surrounding landscape, flowers and stationery, architecture, family heritage or simply something meaningful to the couple.
The result is a wedding cake that feels entirely at home within the celebration — beautiful from a distance, captivating in its detail and unmistakably personal.
ARTISTRY & EXPERTISE
With over 11 years of cake-making experience, Cakes by Alison has evolved through a combination of experience, creativity and a continued commitment to developing the craft of contemporary wedding cake design.
What began as a passion for creating cakes developed into a full-time business in January 2019. Since then, Alison has created hundreds of wedding cakes for couples celebrating across the Lake District, Cumbria and beyond, developing a distinctive style recognised for its elegant design, hand-painted artistry and meticulous attention to detail.
Continued professional development has always been an important part of Cakes by Alison. Alison has invested extensively in specialist training with some of the most respected cake artists in the UK and internationally.
Her training has included attending Suzanne Esper’s Cake School and the Dawn Welton Cake School, alongside specialist tuition with renowned hand-painted cake artist Emily Hankins.
Alison has also had the opportunity to train with internationally celebrated cake artist Maggie Austin, whose work has been hugely influential within the world of luxury sugar artistry and contemporary wedding cake design.
More recently, Alison has continued to develop and refine her skills through training with Petite Pivoine and award-winning contemporary wedding cake artist Enrique Rojas of Have Some Cake.
These experiences, combined with more than a decade spent designing and creating cakes, have helped shape the Cakes by Alison aesthetic today — bringing together fine art, hand painting, sugar craftsmanship, texture and contemporary design.
Every wedding cake is approached as an individual commission, allowing these techniques and influences to be brought together in a way that feels entirely personal to each couple and their celebration.
A TRULY BESPOKE APPROACH
No two weddings are the same, and no two Cakes by Alison wedding cakes are designed to be the same.
Every wedding cake is created as an individual commission, beginning with the couple, their celebration and the setting they have chosen for their day.
Rather than selecting a design from a catalogue, couples are invited to share the details that make their wedding uniquely theirs. Inspiration may come from the architecture of a beautiful venue, the surrounding landscape, wedding flowers and stationery, a meaningful place, a much-loved animal or simply a shared story that deserves to be captured.
These elements are then thoughtfully interpreted through design, using techniques such as hand painting, delicate sugar work, texture and contemporary detailing to create something completely individual.
Particular consideration is given to how the cake will sit within its surroundings, from its scale and proportions to its colours, styling and presentation. The intention is for the finished cake to feel like an integral part of the wedding rather than simply an addition to it.
And while beautiful design is at the heart of Cakes by Alison, flavour is equally important. Each cake is freshly made using carefully selected ingredients, with a collection of delicious flavour combinations available for couples to choose from.
The result is a wedding cake created not only to be admired, but to be remembered.
